UPDATE:
Meeting moved to Friday at 5:15pm. Room 17, City Hall. I’ll be there.

I am disgusted with our community.

I asked permission to repost an e-mail from the woman who wrote it, and then just noticed (thanks for the links, Iris) that the Gainesville CW house already did–so if this post disappears, it’s because she asked me not to post it.

If you’re interested in learning more, check out these links (also from Iris)–but if not, please at least read the above link. Ericson Frank from Christians Concerned for the Community forwarded it to us.

That’s so wrong on so many levels…Oh Jesus help us…

  2. esther Says:

That is one of the scariest and worst things I’ve ever heard…

  3. Jess (the nakehd one) Says:

There are some causes for which even political freedom are to be sacrificed in the name of the eternal Love we preach.

We love because He first loved us.

  4. Mary Says:

So, what are we going to do about it? The meeting is Thursday at 6, cutting it close with IV time, but still…even the lot size issue is just beyond ridiculous…

  5. Leah Says:

I read the initial article, and the one in the alligator, and am not sure I’m fully comprehending why all these restrictions are needed …

Is it mainly that churches that are based in neighborhoods are upsetting the people there by bringing the homeless closer to their doorsteps?

And what are the already passed government regulations the comission is trying to be on par with?

There is so much talk about restrictions and regulations, but not a lot of talk about the whys of it. I’m guess thats because people don’t want to admit the why in the first place.

  6. Kelli Says:

Thanks for publicizing this and for linking folks to our site.

Joe Jackson, lawyer and legal advisor to homeless folks and those working with them, will be speaking at our weekly “roundtable discussion” this Thursday from 6-7:30. He can answer questions about the legalities of serving the poor here in Gainesville, some history on how we got here, and what he is doing about some of it. You’re welcome to join us. Bring a dish to share if you can, but if you can’t, come anyway.

  7. Berry Says:

I am planning to go to the meeting. I’m sure the people who are worried about losing money on the other side will be there.

  8. Berry Says:

I just noticed that Pastor Barry at Highlands was at the meeting and spoke up at the Community Development Committee meeting and got into the minutes from 2/14/08. (top of page 4)

    I love that old guy.
